Spider-Man Stark Suit Gives Peter New Powers in Homecoming?

One of the biggest surprises of this year’s Comic-Con was the Spider-Man: Homecoming cast and director Jon Watts flying in from Atlanta during production, to showcase the first footage. Unfortunately, that footage has not been released quite yet, and we don’t know if Sony and Marvel have plans to release it anytime soon. Still, we learned quite a great deal about the story just from the stars’ brief appearance, and today we have even more details from director Jon Watts.

We first met Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker/Spider-Man in this summer’s epic blockbuster Captain America: Civil War, where he was recruited to join Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) side of this epic battle. We saw in the post credit scene that Peter was exploring his new high-tech suit that Tony Stark built him, but we haven’t heard much about this suit quite yet. During a Comic-Con interview with ComicBook.com, Jon Watts teased that there may be surprises in store for fans with this suit.

“Well, the suit that Spidey was given in Civil War is a Stark suit, so you have to wonder, with a Stark suit, what else can it do?”

We know this story will be set in high school, with Peter Parker juggling his crime-fighting activities with his school work. Robert Downey Jr. has been confirmed to return as Iron Man, but Jon Watts revealed that this story is essentially the “ground floor” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here’s what he had to say below.

“I think of it as the ground floor, like, if the Avengers tower is like the penthouse, and we know what it’s like to be a millionaire billionaire playboy or whatever, to be Tony or what its like to be a God on another planet, like, that’s the penthouse level of the MCU. Spider-Man is the ground floor. Like what does it look like, what does a high school in the MCU look like, what does riding the subway in the MCU feel like. Spider-Man seems like the perfect opportunity because he’s the most relatable regular person in the canon that I thought he was a great chance to just show what that angle of the MCU looks like.”

Tom Holland will be joined by a supporting cast that includes Zendaya as Michelle, Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds and Laura Harrier as Liz Allen. The cast also includes Michael Keaton, Michael Barbieri, Martin Starr, Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendenborg Jr., J.J. Totah, Donald Glover, Kenneth Choi, Hannibal Buress, Bokeem Wodbine, Michael Mando and Abraham Attah. There have been rumors that Michael Keaton is playing Vulture, Michael Mando is playing the villain Carnage, while Abaraham Attah is rumored to play Miles Morales, although none of their roles have been confirmed. Take a look at Jon Watts’ video interview below, and stay tuned for more on Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is slated for release on July 7, 2017.
