Last week, Warner Bros. unveiled the soundtrack song list and artwork for their highly-anticipated comic book adaptation Suicide Squad, which hits theaters on August 5. Before the soundtrack list was confirmed, there had been rumors that the lead song off this soundtrack would be “Heathens” by Twenty One Pilots, and that the music video may hit soon. It seems that rumor has been confirmed, with the music video dropping today.
Like most music video movie tie-ins, this “Heathens” video features snippets of footage from the movie, particularly within the Belle Reve prison. The video follows members of the band as they have been thrown in this prison with the various members of Task Force X. For fans who pre-order the album starting today on iTunes, you’ll get a free instant download of the “Heathens” song. The band is said to be a favorite of both director David Ayer and Jared Leto’s own band 30 Seconds to Mars.
The Suicide Squad soundtrack contains 14 songs and is a fine mix of old and new titles that should get fans excited and pumped for this impending release. One might even say it is the soundtrack of summer, if it weren’t arriving so late in the season. The soundtrack will be accompanied by a separate release containing composer Steven Price’s full score. Many have noticed that the track list may contain some intriguing story spoilers as well.
The first track is ‘Purple Lamborghini’ by Skrillex & Rick Ross, although it isn’t clear when we’ll see the music video with Jared Leto as The Joker. Some fans have taken the musicians to task for this song, since the actual car used in the movie is not a Purple Lamborghini. It’s a kit car called a Vaydor, and it was designed by Matt McEntegart of Vaydor Exotics in Florida.
Other tracks on the soundtrack include ‘Sucker for Pain’ by Lil’ Wayne, Wiz Khalifa & Imagine Dragons (with Logic, Ty Dolla $ign & X Ambassadors), ‘Standing in the Rain’ by Action Bronson & Dan Auerbach (of The Black Keys) (feat. Mark Ronson), ‘Gangsta’ by Kehlan and ‘Know Better’ and ‘You Don’t Own Me’ by Kevin Grace. The soundtrack also features a few catalog cuts like Eminem’s ‘Without Me’, ‘Slippin Into Darkness’ by War, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Fortunate Son’ and Panic! At the Disco’s cover of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody, which has been used in the second trailer. Take a look at this music video, and stay tuned for more on Suicide Squad.
