The 'This Is Us' Cast Got the 'Billy on the Street' Treatment, and It's Delightfully Awkward

[ad_1]

It’s pretty hard to escape NBC’s hit dramedy This Is Us. The show isn’t even on right now, but that’s not stopping the Internet from obsessing over fan theories and what to expect from season two. And when This Is Us returns in September, the intensity is only going to increase, with live-tweeting sessions, people spontaneously crying on the street, and, welp, more fan theories. To call the series ubiquitous would be an understatement.

Which is why it’s mystifying that very few of the people Billy Eichner interviewed for his latest Billy on the Street segment knew what This Is Us was. When Eichner and a few of the This Is Us stars (Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz, Milo Ventimiglia, and Justin Hartley) hit the streets of New York City to see what people thought about the show, the responses were hilariously awkward. Half of the people Eichner and company interviewed straight-up admitted they don’t watch the show, while the other half feigned interest—with disastrous results.

“They’re all terrific,” one woman said when Eichner asked her to choose a favorite cast member—an acceptable answer, except her eyes suggested she had no idea what was going on. Another woman said her favorite story line on the show was the “big relationship,” but she didn’t get specific. What…does that even mean?

One guy claimed to “love” the show even though he hasn’t caught up on it, which is impossible. (If you’re a This Is Us fan, then you’ve watched every episode at least 12 times by now.) Oh, and another guy randomly hit on Moore. Rude! And gross!

Moore, Metz, Ventimiglia, and Hartley were good sports in the segment, smiling through the barrage of cringe-worthy encounters. And I get it: Not everyone is a TV person. However, it’s unacceptable to be in the presence of Mandy Moore and not sing “Candy” at the top of your lungs. Where is the humanity?
