Originally, the buzz on NBC’s This Is Us was that it was the new Parenthood a.k.a. a tearjerker ensemble family drama that stars a mix of already-famous and up-and-coming actors. Then The People Vs. OJ Simpson happened, and suddenly it’s like, Milo Ventimigli-who? By far, the best part of This Is Us is Sterling K. Brown (“Randall”). No shade to Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz, or Justin Hartley (we love you all!), but is there a way to cancel the other storylines? Because, honestly, I just want more Sterling. This is a love letter to him.
Please ignore Jimmy Fallon having a small stroke in the background.
I mean, just look at him thanking everyone for his two SAG Award nominations!
When has your fave ever been so humble? Or, for that matter, nominated for two SAG Awards at the same time? Personally, I hope he wins both. They’d look so cute sitting on either side of his Emmy.
The This Is Us writers know what they’ve got, too. He consistently has many of the best storylines and the best scenes. That scene between him and Jimmi Simpson on the balcony during the Christmas episode? High-water mark for the show, honestly. In my opinion, Randall is by far the most interesting, complicated character. He’s contending with being a good man, a good husband, a good father, a good Black son to white parents, and a good caretaker to his newly discovered biological father. And he kills it every episode.
Also, not to be thirsty, but this man is nice to look at. Very nice.
And so deserving of his good fortune! So hard-working and kind! And seems like a chill husband and father!
Dear NBC: Please give us This Is Randall in 2017. That is all.
