Over the weekend, director David Ayer shared a new poster for his highly-anticipated comic book adaptation Suicide Squad, and it proved to be one of the most unique one-sheets we’ve seen this year. As we get closer and closer to the August 5 premiere date, IMAX has unveiled yet another new poster. But this one doesn’t exactly show us the members of Task Force X. Instead it teases how they might be portrayed if these characters got their own breakfast cereal. This latest sneak peek shows all the individual logos for each character as breakfast cereal marshmallows.
If that wasn’t enough, we also have a new IMAX banner featuring several of the main characters. Last April, Warner Bros. inked a new deal with IMAX through the year 2020 that will cover 30 movies, including Suicide Squad. It’s possible that this cereal poster will be given out to fans as an IMAX exclusive during midnight showings, but we don’t know for sure.
It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Supervillains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
From director David Ayer (Fury, End of Watch) comes Suicide Squad, starring Oscar nominee Will Smith (Ali, The Pursuit of Happyness), Oscar winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club), Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus), Joel Kinnaman (Netflix’s House of Cards) and Oscar nominee Viola Davis (The Help, Doubt). The all-star ensemble cast for Suicide Squad also includes Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), and Jay Hernandez (El Diablo). Scott Eastwood and Ray Olubowale also appear in the movie, but their characters have not been revealed.
Suicide Squad will be going up against The Weinstein Company’s drama The Founder and EuropaCorp’s comedy Nine Lives on August 5. Warner Bros. recently announced a Harley Quinn spinoff that may also feature characters like Batgirl and the Brids of Prey. Another report revealed that the studio is considering spinoffs for both The Joker and Boomerang as well, but it isn’t known how far along in development any of these projects are. Another report claimed the studio wants director David Ayer to come back for Suicide Squad 2, with the studio eyeing an early 2017 shoot, although that hasn’t been confirmed.
