Serena Williams, the world’s greatest athlete, officially became a mother on September 1 when she and fiancé Alexis Ohanian welcomed a baby girl. The couple didn’t offer any details directly following the birth, but Williams just broke her baby silence on Instagram Stories. The tennis champion shared a slew of photos, videos, and information about her pregnancy to the social media platform early Wednesday morning (September 13), including the first snap of her baby—and her name.
We know you’re dying to see the pic, so go ahead and take a glimpse, below, and then we can keep discussing.
The baby’s name, unsurprisingly, is beautiful and very fitting for her athlete genes: Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. According to Williams’ Instagram Stories, baby Alexis weighed in at 6 pounds and 14 oz at the time of her birth, and she had to spend about a week in the hospital due to complications.
“So we’re leaving the hospital after six, seven days,” Williams says in the video revealing her daughter’s face, publicly, for the first time. “It’s been a long time, but we had a lot of complications, but look who we got — we got a baby girl!”
Head over to Williams’ Instagram Stories to see more footage about her pregnancy, including sonograms, home videos, mirror selfies, and how the couple prepped to bring home Alexis.
A pregnant Williams posed nude for Vanity Fair in June, and in her interview she revealed this pregnancy took her by surprise. “It just doesn’t seem real. I don’t know why. Am I having a baby?” she said. “If you would have told me last year in October or November that I would have a baby, not be pregnant but have a baby, I would have thought you were the biggest liar in the world. This is kind of how I am right now. This is happening sooner than later, and it’s going by so fast.”
Congrats to Williams and Ohanian! It’s only a matter of time before Alexis is winning Grand Slams.
