Another day, another controversy on Kim Kardashian West‘s Instagram feed. Even though the reality star appears to have taken the controversial “Bo Derek” braids (a.k.a. Fulani braids) out of her hair, she’s facing another round of negative reactions for her latest upload, which was taken by her 4-year-old daughter North West. In the pic, which she posted bright and early on Thursday morning, the mom of three holds an unclasped bra to her chest and looks into a mirror; in the reflection, we can see North standing behind her, snapping the photo. Kardashian West captioned the snap “📸 by North,” and it’s been liked over a million times…and attracted a lot of comments saying that it’s inappropriate for a child to photograph her mother in a state of half-dress.
One Instagram user commented, “This is extremely perverted and extremely inappropriate.” Another added, “Wow you just could’nt [sic] let Kylie have all the attention.” Still another, who doesn’t appear to be a mental health professional of any kind, went so far as to offer the unqualified diagnosis no one asked for, writing, “Histrionic personality disorder (HPD) is defined by the American Psychiatric Association as a personality disorder characterized by a pattern of excessive attention-seeking emotions, usually beginning in early adulthood, including inappropriately seductive behavior and an excessive need for approval.”
Oh, boy.
Did Kim ask North to take this picture? Was it North’s idea? Was it candid or staged? Did Kim consult with her daughter on which filters to use to fit the picture into her Instagram aesthetic? Who knows? Not me and, also, not you. Most of us have never met any of the Kardashians IRL, so we can’t know if they’re good parents or not, but, frankly, it’s none of our business. Instead of commenting on someone’s Instagram to insult them over a grainy picture that has no context, you can always…not do that! Just saying.
