The 2017 Golden Globes had it all: high and low moments, amazing looks on the red carpet, and even awkward hugs. However, the best part about the evening are the moments you didn’t see on TV. Like what, you ask? Oh, just Emma Stone munching on a bunch of Lay’s potato chips after La La Land‘s Best Comedy/Musical win or Viola Davis giving the best eye roll since Leo DiCaprio at last year’s Globes.
Luckily, I was there to capture these candid moments on the red carpet, in the press room, and at the after-parties. Take a look!
As I mentioned before, this eye roll from Viola Davis is everything. It’s how we feel about walking in heels for hours, too.
And we spotted Emma Stone quickly munching on some salty, finger-licking potato chips backstage.
At the NBCUniversal/Focus Features/E! party, Jimmy Fallon was the star of the show. He was seen taking photos with guests and working the room, which included his wife, Nancy Juvonen, SNL‘s Lorne Michaels, SNL alum Molly Shannon, Loving‘s Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton, Kendall and Kylie Jenner (who had bodyguards that instructed guests not to take photos of the sisters), Kristin Cavallari, and Stevie Wonder.
The cast of This Is Us hit up the event as well and walked the carpet as one big family. They’re all super close, which isn’t that surprising. Still, considering many of them don’t get to always work with each other (especially Milo in present time with his TV adult kids), it speaks to how much they genuinely like each other.
Over at the FIJI Water and Landmark Vineyards co-sponsored Weinstein Co. and Netflix post-show bash, Kerry Washington held court with Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman and supermodel Naomi Campbell. The three appeared to have a deep conversation at what was the loudest and most vibrant after-party of the evening.
Meanwhile, Stranger Things‘ breakout stars Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, and Millie Bobby Brown stuck close to each other in the party and ate spicy tuna on crispy rice, mini sliders, truffle grilled cheese, and Lindora chocolate.
Golden Globe winner Claire Foy (who plays Queen Elizabeth II on Netflix’s TV drama winner, The Crown) met up with Molly Shannon (who can currently be seen on HBO’s Divorce) before heading out shortly before midnight. When asked what she’d most like to ask the real Queen of England, Foy wanted to know if she’s even seen the series about her early reign and “then I’d like to hear her talk for two hours!”
Next door at the FOX/FX/Hulu party, Atlanta‘s Keith Stansfield and Donald Glover celebrated their big win for Best Comedy Series, TV. Earlier in the press room, Glover talked about his upcoming role as young Lando Calrissian in the still-untitled Han Solo Star Wars film. “Land is a big deal for me,” he said. “It was literally the first toy I ever got. It’s interesting when you have something iconic…you want to live up to the expectation, but all you can do is live up to your own. I really just want to have fun.”
Golden Globe winner Sarah Paulson (for The People V. O.J. Simpson) also hit up the FOX/FX/Hulu party (where the cast of This Is Us also stopped by) and was greeted by a pop-up pizza parlor from L.A. hotspot Jon & Vinny’s.
