French Figure Skater Maé-Bérénice Méité Just Performed to Beyoncé at the Olympics

When you watch the PyeongChang Olympics’ figure skating competitions this year, you might notice that skaters are (finally) allowed to skate to songs with lyrics. Before, skaters could only use instrumental tracks—but the International Skating Union switched up the rules to appeal to a younger audience. One skater who took advantage of the new rule? France’s Maé-Bérénice Méité, who did an incredible job taking Beyoncé to the ice.

In a black-and-gold sequined jumpsuit—no skirts here!—that the Lemonade singer herself would surely rock on stage, Méité performed her routine to an amazing medley of Queen B’s hits “Run The World (Girls)” and “Halo.”

According to Cosmopolitan, Méité chose Beyoncé because she’s an accurate reflection of her personality. “[Her music] is crazy, wild, and fun,” she told the publication. “You can just dance to it, and that’s how I am.”

The 23-year-old Olympian admits it was an unconventional choice—some of her competitors still skated to classical music artists like Chopin despite the rule change—but she really wanted to do something unique.
