First Pete's Dragon Clip Unravels a Mystery in the Woods

Disney has had non-stop success with their live-action remakes of classic fairy tales. This summer, they will go a slightly different route, reimagining the original live-action/animated classic Pete’s Dragon for modern audiences. The first clip has arrived, and it features stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Robert Redford trying to unravel the mystery behind a young boy who claims to have been living in the woods.

Robert Redford believes it is impossible for young Pete to have survived for 6 years on his own. But according to Bryce Dallas Howard’s Grace, he wasn’t alone. Not according to the boy. He’s drawn a picture of his best friend. A strange green creature that lives in the forest. Impossible. Because this creature looks just like the dragons told about in the popular folklore of the surrounding area. It also looks just like a picture Grace’s dad drew for her when she was a little kid!

Pete (Oakes Fegley) is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…Until she meets Pete.

And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon. Pete’s Dragon stars Karl Urban, Craig Hall, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Marcus Henderson.

The film, which is a reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film from 1977, also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Oakes Fegley, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban, Oona Laurence and Robert Redford. The movie is directed by David Lowery, and opens nationwide on August 12, 2016. This first clip comes courtesy of Yahoo! Movies. Check it out as the mystery behind Pete’s friend Elliott deepens, and prepare for what could be the last big hit of the summer movie season.
