This fall, Tom Cruise will be back in action as Jack Reacher in the action-packed sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, which is set to hit theaters on October 21. Paramount hasn’t released the first trailer quite yet, but today we have the first official photos, featuring stars Tom Cruise and Cobie Smulders. Hopefully with the release of these photos, the first trailer will be arriving soon, but we don’t know for sure.
The new film is based on author Lee Child’s 18th book in the bestselling Jack Reacher series, Never Go Back. The story follows the title character as he helps an Army major (Cobie Smulders) accused of espionage, while dealing with his own personal issues. People has the first look photos, with director Edward Zwick offering high praise for his star. Here’s what the director had to say.
“I’ve never seen anybody more prepared both physically and mentally than Tom. He’s tireless and unbelievably focused. It’s a pretty boring job to be Tom’s stunt double. He did all of his own stunts. It’s almost a hallmark of what he does. He does every bit of it himself.”
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back also stars Danika Yarosh, Austin Hébert, Patrick Heusinger, Aldis Hodge and Holt McCallany. This sequel reunites Tom Cruise with Edward Zwick for the first time since they worked together on the 2003 drama The Last Samurai. The filmmaker worked from a script he co-wrote with longtime collaborator Marshall Herskovitz and Richard Wenk.
The action sequel will be part of a jam-packed weekend on October 21, with a total of six new releases hitting theaters. Also going up against Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is Lionsgate’s Boo! A Madea Halloween, Pure Flix’s drama I’m Not Ashamed, 20th Century Fox’s comedy Keeping Up With the Jonses, Focus Features’ A Monster Calls and Universal’s horror sequel Ouija: Origin of Evil. Take a look at these new photos, and stay tuned for more on Jack Reacher 2.
