It goes without saying that October is a perfect month to release a horror film, as fans get ready for the beloved Halloween holiday. For many years, Lionsgate dominated the season with their Saw franchise, which the studio is resurrecting with Saw: Legacy next year. But in 2016, the studio is taking a more comedic approach with Boo! A Madea Halloween, hitting theaters October 21. Today we have the second trailer for this horror-comedy, along with a new poster and photos, which spoofs a few of your favorite horror movies, including Saw.
In Tyler Perry‘s Boo! A Madea Halloween, Madea winds up in the middle of mayhem when she spends a hilarious, haunted Halloween fending off killers, paranormal poltergeists, ghosts, ghouls, and zombies while keeping a watchful eye on a group of misbehaving teens. The film’s origins date back to when Perry and Chris Rock came together to include a fictitious Madea Halloween movie in Chris Rock‘s film Top Five. Lionsgate then approached Perry and suggested that they make the movie for real.
Tyler Perry will play the roles of Madea, in addition to the roles of Joe and Brian. The film will also star Bella Thorne as Rain, Cassi Davis as Aunt Bam, Patrice Lovely as Hattie, Andre Hall as Quinton, Yousef Erakat as Jonathan, Lexy Panterra as Leah, Diamond White as Tiffany, Liza Koshy as Aday, Brock O’Hurn as Horse, Jimmy Tatro as Sean, JC Caylen as Mikey, Kian Lawley as Bean Boy, and Mike Tornabene as “Dino.” Production took place in Atlanta earlier this year at Tyler Perry Studios.
Tyler Perry writes, produces, directs, and stars in the latest project with the popular character Madea. Ozzie Areu and Will Areu will also be producers on the film. Boo! A Madea Halloween will be released in one of the more competitive release dates this year, with a whopping six movies opening in wide release. This comedy will be going up against Paramount’s Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, 20th Century Fox’s Keeping Up With the Joneses, Focus Features’ A Monster Calls, Universal’s Ouija: Origin of Evil and PureFlix’s I’m Not Ashamed.
In addition to the trailer, we also have a new poster and four photos from Boo! A Madea Halloween featuring Bella Thorne and other members of the supporting cast. This will be Tyler Perry’s first Madea movie since A Madea Christmas, which took in $52.5 million domestically back in 2013. While we wait to see how this new Madea comedy fares in theaters, take a look at the trailer and photos below, along with the poster which will be quite familiar to horror fans.
