Does Jyn Erso Have a Sister in Star Wars: Rogue One?

[ad_1]

Over the past few days, we’ve learned quite a bit about Disney’s first Star Wars spinoff Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, including a rumor that this adventure may not use the opening crawl, like the first seven Star Wars movies before it. We’ve gotten confirmation regarding the identities of several different characters as of late, but today a new rumor has surfaced which could hint that Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso may have a sister. There may be potential SPOILERS below, so read on at your own risk.

Ever since fans learned that Felicity Jones’s character is named Jyn Erso, there has been speculation that she could be the mother of Rey (Daisy Ridley) from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Daisy Ridley herself shot down these rumors recently, but a new report from Making Star Wars claims that Jyn Erso’s sibling may be featured in this story. The site spotted an IMDB listing for Valene Kane, who is playing a character named Lyra Erso in Rogue One.

You may recall that, Lyra Erso was mentioned in a report from six months ago, who was originally believed to be Felicity Jones’ character before she was revealed as Jyn Erso. That report claimed that Gabrielle Fritz was serving as a double for the Lyra Erso actress, and her bio reveals that she is the exact height as Valene Kane. The site also speculates that, since Valene Kane is too close in age to be playing Jyn Erso’s mother, the mysterious Lyra Erso will likely either be Jyn’s sister, or perhaps her mother in flashback scenes.

Of course, just because she’s on IMDB, doesn’t mean she’s actually in the film itself, since there are numerous inaccuracies on the site. If she is actually part of the cast, she joins Mads Mikkelsen as Galen Erso, Jyn’s father, Ben Mendelsohn as the villainous Krennic, Alan Tuydk voicing the new droid K-2SO, Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, Diego Luna’s Captain Cassian Andor, Donnie Yen plays Chirrut Imwe and Jiang Wen’s Baze. We’ll have to wait and see if we get any confirmation about Lyra Erso as we get closer to the December 16 release date.

Gareth Edwards, best known for Monsters and Godzilla, is directing the movie, and he recently oversaw reshoots that spanned four weeks this summer. The reshoots are not affecting Rogue One’s December 16 release date, and the studio hopes to present a new glimpse at the movie during San Diego Comic-Con next month. Stay tuned for more on Rogue One as more details come in.
