Last month, shocking allegations surfaced that Johnny Depp has been abusive to his wife, Amber Heard, which lead to the actress filing a restraining order against him while starting divorce proceedings. The actress was scheduled to appear at a deposition today, but she claimed that she had to fly to London for a costume fitting on the upcoming Justice League movie, where she’s set to play Mera. As it turned out, the actress never did go to London, reportedly because she had lost too much weight, due to stress from the divorce proceedings.
TMZ reports that Amber Heard‘s lawyers told the court that her client would be unable to attend the deposition that was scheduled for today, because she would be in New Jersey for a friend’s engagement party, and then she was flying to London for the Justice League costume fitting. However, the site spotted the actress in Los Angeles on Wednesday, and her reps claim that the studio canceled the fitting because the producers didn’t think she was “camera-ready.” She has reportedly lost 20 pounds due to “overwhelming stress.”
Warner Bros. hasn’t confirmed this or not, but it’s possible that with all of the legal trouble swirling around the actress, her role as Mera may be in jeopardy. She is also slated to play Mera, described as the “Khaleesi of the sea’ in Warner Bros.’ long-awaited Aquaman movie, which stars Jason Momoa and will be directed by James Wan. No other cast members are attached to star in Aquaman quite yet.
Production has been under way on Justice League since April, but Warner Bros. hasn’t confirmed any official details about the story. Batman v Superman stars Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) will return, along with Ezra Miller (The Flash), Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and Ray Fisher (Cyborg), all of whom had cameos in Batman v Superman. Warner Bros. has set a November 17, 2017 release date for Justice League.
Johnny Depp’s legal team contends that Amber Heard is putting off the deposition, because she’s afraid to make her claims of domestic abuse against Johnny Depp under oath and face cross-examination. It isn’t known how large or small of a role Amber Heard may have in Justice League, or if her role is in danger due to these legal issues. As of now, Warner Bros. hasn’t said one way or another if Amber Heard is still playing Mera in Justice League, but we’ll continue to keep you posted with the latest updates.
