Thor 3 Has Hulk and Bruce Banner on a Collision Course

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Marvel’s highly-anticipated sequel Thor: Ragnarok will start production on the 4th of July in Australia. While very little has been confirmed about the story, the cast is starting to come together, with Cate Blanchett (Hela), Jeff Goldblum (The Grandmaster), Karl Urban (Skurge) and Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie) coming aboard to star. Mark Ruffalo is also coming aboard to star as Hulk, and while promoting his new movie Now You See Me 2, the actor dropped some new details about how Hulk fits into this sequel.

We last saw Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where he commandeered a S.H.I.E.L.D. Quinjet and took off for parts unknown. Both Thor and Hulk were the only two Avengers who didn’t show up in last month’s Captain America: Civil War, but we’ll get to see them on the big screen next year. During a new interview with Collider, Mark Ruffalo teased that Bruce Banner will have to confront his relationship with his giant green alter-ego, the Hulk.

“I think the arc that he is ultimately making in his relationship with The Hulk and how that’s gonna resolve itself, that’s really where … nobody has gone to that place. He’s always been running from him or trying to deny it but they are coming for a collision course with each other and I think that could be pretty exciting if we can figure out a way, how to do it – multi-dimensionally. Hulk vs. Banner! The only person Hulk’s scared of is Banner.”

Thor and Thor: The Dark World stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Hopkins (Odin) and Idris Elba (Heimdall) have been confirmed to reprise their roles, and it has also been confirmed that Natalie Portman will not be back as Jane Foster. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has teased that Thor: Ragnarok will largely be set in the cosmos, with very little time spent on Earth. While no official story details have been released yet, there have been plenty of rumors.

One of the most prevalent rumors is that the new villain Hela will team up with Loki and banish Thor from Asgard, destroying his mighty hammer Mjolnir in the process. Thor then goes on a journey that leads him to a plant full of gladiators, where he is forced to go up against the current champion, Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). This eventually leads to a “cosmic road trip” between Hulk and Thor, but none of those details have been confirmed. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as we get closer to Thor: Ragnarok starting production on the 4th of July.
