While Batman v Superman has been one of the most divisive superhero movies in the history of the genre, we never really heard any fans complaining about the deluge of promotional materials that came out before the movie’s debut in theaters. For the most part, the theatrical posters were welcomed with open arms. And it seems Warner Bros. did a proficient job when it came to selling the movie on opening weekend. But like with any big movie, the studio poured over quite a few concepts to get where they landed. Today, we get to see two of these rejected Dawn of Justice posters. And they perfectly capture the scarier side of these two heroes.
These posters come from a Reddit user. And as you can see, they didn’t make it into the final marketing campaign, perhaps because they show Kal-El in a less than positive light. Though, after the movie debuted, we did get to see a few images of Superman using his heat vision. The Batman poster is less scary, and relies on the cool Bat-Armor that was prevalent in so much of the marketing materials leading up to the movie’s March debut.
There have been rumors that the R-Rated extended cut of Batman V Superman is coming to theaters, though that has never been confirmed by Warner Bros. If that were the case, perhaps these two one-sheets would be the perfect images to sell the grittier version of this movie to more enthusiastic ticket buyers. At this time, no Blu-ray or DVD release date has been announced.
Earlier this month, an Australian retailer claimed to have the full specs on the home video release for Dawn of Justice. It is stated that the movie will come with 10 featurettes. These bonus features are entitled ‘Uniting The World’s Finest’, ‘Gods And Men: A Meeting Of Giants’, ‘The Warrior, The Myth, The Wonder’, ‘Accelerating Design: The New Batmobile‘, ‘Analysing A New Legacy Of Design: Superman’, ‘Analysing A New Legacy Of Design: Batman’, ‘Analysing A New Legacy Of Design: Wonder Woman’, ‘Analysing A New Legacy Of Design: The Batcave’, ‘The Might And The Power Of A Punch’, ‘The Empire Of Luthor’ and ‘Save The Bats’. The Save the Bats featurette most likely delves into the cast and crew’s campaign to spread awareness for a worthy cause. It’s expected the movie will arrive in stores this summer, and could be timed to the theatrical release of Suicide Squad
This list has yet to be confirmed, and we don’t know if it’s actually complete, or how long each of these bonus features will run. As for the extra footage, Zack Snyder teased last month that he is putting back scenes that he was forced to cut so the film would get a PG-13 rating. He also revealed that there is no nudity, just more violence that “tipped the scales” from an R rating to PG-13. The filmmaker stated that scenes featuring Green Bay Packers running back Ahman Green and iconic bodybuilder guru C.T. Fletcher will be included in the director’s cut, along with Jena Malone’s scenes, who has long been rumored to be playing Barbara Gordon, a.k.a. Batgirl. We’ll have to wait a little longer until we get an official announcement. In the meantime, check out these unused posters that just weren’t good enough for the first run theatrical release.
