With less than 24 hours to go before the royal wedding, royal family superfans have started lining up around Windsor to catch a glimpse of Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their loved ones as they go in and out of wedding rehearsals. And on Friday afternoon, they got what they wished for. Video footage from BBC News shows Prince Harry and Prince William taking a break from nuptial preparations with a light stroll.
In the videos, Prince Harry and Prince William can be seen walking around Windsor as fans cheer them on and congratulate the groom-to-be. The pair are all smiles, waving to the crowd and shaking hands with those gathered in the front. And Prince Harry didn’t walk away empty-handed: As a second video shows, he made his way back to Windsor Castle holding a red-sweater-wearing teddy bear bestowed upon him by a fan.
The impromptu meet and greet is a sign that things are running smoothly and is surely a treat for fans amid all of the royal wedding drama involving Thomas Markle (Meghan Markle’s dad and the one who was originally supposed to be walking her down the aisle) that’s been brewing over the past week or so. Basically, Thomas Markle told TMZ on Monday that he would not be going to the royal wedding so as not to embarrass Meghan or the royal family after it was implied by The Daily Mail that he faked some paparazzi photos. Then, on Tuesday, Thomas told TMZ he’d changed his mind and didn’t want to miss “one of the greatest moments in history” or skip out on walking his daughter down the aisle. Mere hours later, though, he changed his mind again, saying he would no longer be able to travel to the royal wedding due to a heart surgery on Wednesday.
The next day, Meghan Markle released a statement about her father’s absence at the wedding. “Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding,” the statement read. “I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health.” Prince Charles stepped in just in time, and, barring any “fork”-related shenanigans, the royal wedding should proceed just fine.
