Listen to Taylor Swift’s new album, Reputation, and you’ll notice two things: (1) She’s really in love with Joe Alwyn, and (2) She’s really into drinking these days. Seriously, there are a lot of alcohol references on Reputation. Not that this is bad, of course: Swift’s in her twenties—we don’t blame her for wanting to kick back with a cocktail every now and then. But the drinking references, mixed with Swift cussing and talking about sex on the album, make it very clear she’s going for a new, more “adult” image.
This is perhaps the most apparent in Swift’s new video for “End Game.” It’s essentially four minutes of Swift turning up around the world. One minute she’s dancing on a yacht in Miami; the next, she’s doing shots in Tokyo. Also peppered throughout the video are shots of Swift’s glasses looking askew, tipsy toasts, and playing with several drink stirrers. She’s basically all of us at the bar right before closing time.
It’s also similar to a video Swift dropped nearly five years ago, “22.” Swift is partying throughout that video too—minus the drinking. Instead, Swift and her pals make a sheet cake, dance on the beach, and hit up a cute, glitter-covered house party. If you watch the two videos back to back, it’s very clear that “End Game” is essentially the grown-up version of “22.” It’s almost as if the first video is a bowl of punch, and the second one is that same bowl but spiked. Don’t believe us? Let these music video stills do the talking.
In “22,” Swift walks on the beach during the day, her hair tucked into a cute knit cap.
But in “End Game,” Swift hits the beach at night. Her hair is messy and free.
Look at this innocent sheet cake Swift’s eating in “22.”
Compared to the post-drinks burgers and fries her crew eats in “End Game.”
The final party in “22” looks like it’s happening in a suburban basement.
And that’s…not the vibe of “End Game.”
Swift’s glasses look perfectly appointed in “22.”
But turned upside down in “End Game.” Hmmm, we wonder why?
Look at the cat ears in “22.” Perfect for wholesome moments!
So obviously she ditched them in “End Game.”
Last but not the least, the dancing: Swift and her friends have a daytime pep rally in “22.”
…and alcohol-fueled shenanigans in “End Game.”
Swift’s fans are noticing these parallels too, and their Twitter reactions are hilarious:

What can we say? The Old Taylor can’t come to phone right now quite literally because she’s grown the hell up.
