If you’ve been to a music festival, you’ve undoubtedly seen women walking around in various degrees of undress…
…some more than others.
But regardless of what they’re wearing, that doesn’t give anyone the right to run up and grab a loose titty. Is the world we live in an ideal one where everyone holds themselves to a high social moral? Of course not – it’s a dumpster fire that someone ignited next to a gasoline factory. So if you ask me, while no one has the right to grab anyone else…come on. You should know what you’re potentially getting yourself into when you choose to walk around in public topless. You wouldn’t walk through West Baltimore pulling a Radio Flyer full of cash without expecting to get stabbed and robbed, just the same as I wouldn’t go topless at a music festival without expecting to get touched at least a few times:
But hey, it looks like not everyone is as blasé as I am, as Madeline Anello-Kitzmiller, a 20-year-old attendee at Rhythm & Vines festival in New Zealand, went and smacked the shit out of some dude who groped her as she walked by.
Speaking about the incident, Madeline said that “My lack of clothing is not the problem, the problem is people thinking they have the right to touch my body without consent,” she said.
“He grabbed my breast. I hit him. There was a lot of built up anger coming from harassment throughout the day. This happens everywhere, not just New Zealand.”
“My breasts are not sex toys, they are not an invitation.”
Indeed they aren’t, and she is correct in that no one has the right to touch her – but again, I’m not gonna roll up to a methadone clinic with a bag full of dope and clean needles and hope that no one jacks my shit. The world isn’t perfect, and the sooner people accept that and begin to use their common sense, the better off we will be.
