Solo Fan Video Ditches Classic Crawl for Way Better Opening

The Star Wars spin-off movies seem to be going without the famous opening crawl, which was proven with the release of Rogue One. Since the chance of an opening crawl happening for Solo are slim to none, many have wondered just exactly how the space adventure will begin. Now, thanks to the hard work of a dedicated Star Wars super fan, we have an idea of where Ron Howard and Lucasfilm could take the opening moments. The new fan-made opening plays off rumors of humor and the addition of Ron Howard as director, getting an Arrested Development-style voiceover.

The new fan-made opening for Solo begins with the death of Han Solo at the hands of his son Ben from 2015’s The Force Awakens. The Lightsaber tears into his chest, then we get a close up of Han’s shocked face. A record scratches. A voiceover pops up saying, “Yep, that’s me. You’re probably wondering how I got into this situation.” From there, The Who’s classic rock anthem “Baba O’Riley” (aka Teenage Wasteland) starts playing as the logo comes together for Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The fan-made Solo opening is a perfect 15-second piece that actually makes one want to continue watching what it would be like if the movie was filtered through My Name is Earl or Arrested Development. Ron Howard has already officially announced on social media that he will not be adding his voice talents to create a voiceover for Solo, so don’t get your hopes up about this actually happening. However, it seems that Lucasfilm was robbed of an epic gag for the Blu-ray release of the movie.

We were recently treated to the first Solo footage, and many Star Wars fans have grown to like it more than they would have admitted just 2 months earlier. The trailer looks dark and the wardrobes and characters all look like the style we know and love, but with a twist. Donald Glover, who plays Lando, has stated that the spin-off movie is a lot more fun than any of the previous Star Wars movies, which makes sense, since we’re dealing with the sarcastic beginnings of Han Solo.

Solo: A Star Wars Story opens on May 25th and although Harrison Ford reportedly doesn’t make a cameo, he took Alden Ehrenreich out to lunch to give him advice about playing the young Han Solo, passing on years of notes that he received from George Lucas. Lucas was also present for shooting on the set one of the days and even gave a helping hand in directing a small part of a scene. Though this fan-made crawl is definitely not what we will see when Solo hits theaters, it’s still awesome and you can check it out below, thanks to Vince Rogue’s Twitter account.
