Scott Eastwood Eyes Pacific Rim 2

Earlier today, we reported that Legendary and Universal Pictures have set a February 23, 2018 release date for Pacific Rim 2. The news came just a few weeks after Star Wars: The Force Awakens breakout star John Boyega signed on for a leading role, portraying the son of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost from the first Pacific Rim. Now we have yet another report which claims the studios are eyeing Suicide Squad star Scott Eastwood for an unspecified role.

Deadline reports that Scott Eastwood is in early talks for the action sequel, which has recently been given a new lease on life after it was indefinitely delayed last fall. Unfortunately, it wasn’t revealed who Scott Eastwood is playing, or if this character has any connections to the characters from the original Pacific Rim. This new report reveals that production is being eyed to start late this year, although it isn’t clear where shooting will take place.

When Guillermo del Toro was attached to direct, he claimed that the entire original cast that survived the first movie will be back for the sequel. If this turns out to be true, then we will be seeing the return of Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) and Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi), scientists Dr. Newton Geiszler (Charlie Day) and Gottlieb (Burn Gorman) and Ron Perlman’s Hannibal Chau, who was thought to be dead but was shown to have survived in a post credit scene. Of course, a lot has changed since Guillermo del Toro was attached to direct.

Back in February, Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight signed on to direct, with writer Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) boarding the project last month before John Boyega signed on. With a new writer and director on board, it isn’t known what new directions they may take the story in. Legendary also announced in 2014 that an animated series will bridge the gap between both movies, but we don’t know if that’s still happening.

Scott Eastwood, the son of legendary actor/director Clint Eastwood, has been on a steady rise over the past few years. Later this year, he will be seen in two highly-anticipated projects, Warner Bros.’ superhero adaptation Suicide Squad, the biopic Snowden, and he is currently shooting Fast & Furious 8. Stay tuned for more on Pacific Rim 2 as soon as more details come in.
