Keira Knightley to Return in Pirates of the Caribbean 5?

It’s been known for quite some time that original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy star Orlando Bloom is returning to star in this summer’s sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, after having sat out the fourth installment. Now, it looks like we’re getting a true Black Pearl reunion, as Keira Knightley, who also sat out chapter four, will be back as well.

This news arrives from TooFab, who say Keira Knightley is set to make her surprise return this May, when Johnny Depp’s iconic Captain Jack Sparrow once again sets sail on the seven seas for another dangerous adventure. Word is that she already shot her scenes, which was all done in secret.

Keira Knightley plays Elizabeth Swann in the franchise. And she is seemingly confirmed to have an on-screen reunion with her two original co-stars, with this said to be a small cameo. It is actually described as part of the post-credit sequence that is being used to set up the already announced Pirates of the Caribbean 6. Orlando Bloom has a much more substantial role in Dead Men. Disney is currently refusing to comment.

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly than normal in Dead men Tell no Tales. Deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including Jack. Sparrow’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

The supporting cast includes newcomers Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites and Golshifteh Farahani, along with returning fan favorites from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise such as Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, Kevin McNally as Joshamee Gibbs and Stephen Graham as Scrum. We also reported last year that music legend Paul McCartney will play a brand new character, but no details about his role have been revealed.

Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg are directing this high seas adventure, from a script by Jeff Nathanson. Disney has set a May 26, 2017 release date, which puts it up against Sony’s sci-fi thriller Life, starring Ryan Reynolds.

Production on this highly-anticipated sequel took place in Australia last year. Disney did release a trailer earlier in the year, but it was a very ominous trailer that did not reveal the return of Jack Sparrow or Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner. It is suspected that Pirates 5 will start its promotional assault early in the New Year. A trailer is expected soon. But don’t expect to see Keira Knightley return in any of the new footage. Her return will be saved for the big screen. Here’s the Pirates 5 teaser trailer in case you missed it earlier in the year.
