Kate Middleton Will Be Played by Charlotte Riley in a New Film About the Royal Family

If the smashing success of Netflix’s newest historical drama [The Crown](http://www.glamour.com/about/the-crown) has proven anything, it’s that we commoners can’t get enough of the monarchy. For those left with a bit of royal drama withdrawal after binging the series, there’s no need to fear. A new glimpse into the life of England’s most powerful family will soon be on your screens thanks to the BBC2.

According to a report from the BBC, the network has commissioned writer Mike Bartlett to adapt his award-winning play King Charles III into a television movie. The plot imagines Prince Charles’ turbulent accession to the throne following the death of the Queen and the chaos that ensues after he refuses to sign a controversial bill.

So, who will be playing the parts of the royal family’s most famous members? It was announced that actor Tim Pigott-Smith, who portrayed Charles on both the West End and Broadway, will be reprising his role, while actress Charlotte Riley has been chosen to play Kate Middleton. The British actor, famous for her roles in London Has Fallen and Peaky Blinders, is excited about getting the chance to portray the Duchess of Cambridge.

“It’s such a unique project,” she told the BBC. “To be both modern and rich in verse and to play someone who is real but yet totally re-imagined for this story is an exciting prospect for an actor.”

Given how widely adored Middleton and her style are among Brits and Americans alike, Riley certainly has he work cut out for her. But the 34-year-old wife of Tom Hardy doesn’t seem to let the challenge diminish her excitement. “Kate Middleton is a really interesting woman, particularly within the context of this play, and it is a challenge I am really looking forward to,” Riley said.

While no official release date has been set, production is set to start filming now that all the roles have been cast. Hopefully Riley and her take on Kate Middleton won’t disappoint!
