Jennifer Lopez told a group of people at an event Thursday that she dealt with her share of body shaming early on in her career.
People reports that Lopez says “they” kept telling her to “lose weight” when she first started her Hollywood career.
“They kept telling me to lose weight,” Lopez recalled. “And I was a dancer and I was athletic and even my manager at the time, who I no longer work with, um, was telling me, ‘You need to lose weight. You need to be thinner.’ “

But Jennifer didn’t want to conform to their ideals.
“I was like, ‘No I don’t. If I lose any more weight it won’t be me.’ You know what I mean?,” Lopez said.
Still, the singer adds that it was “definitely a fight” and she was “just trying to be myself without trying to fit into a mold of what everybody else should be.”
Lopez is relieved to see Hollywood broadening its definition of beauty.
“It’s a different time now you know, which is awesome to see for me where it is about our differences,” Jennifer continued. “It’s about all the diversity It’s just a more accepting time of everything whether it’s body type or race or gender. We’ve come a long way.”
Jennifer Lopez has admitted that she often fluctuates between 7 and 8 pounds all the time. There are times she feels “chunky,” but accepts herself the way she is.
