With just 16 days left until Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27, the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero adventure is already on pace to break box office records. Fandango announced today that Avengers: Infinity War pre-sales have already doubled what the MCU blockbuster Black Panther has sold through Fandango at the same point in its sales cycle, and has already out-sold the last seven MCU movies combined. It is on pace to have the highest pre-sales ever for a superhero movie, breaking the record set earlier this year by Black Panther. Here’s what Fandango’s managing editor Erik Davis had to say in a statement.
“Infinity War has built up such unprecedented anticipation that it’s pacing to break records, the likes of which we have never seen before for a superhero movie. Moviegoers are rushing to guarantee their seats in advance for what is sure to be one of the most talked-about movies of the decade.”
As of now, Avengers: Infinity War‘s pre-sales totals are greater than the combined sales at this point in the cycle of the last seven MCU movies, which include Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Doctor Strange, Captain America: Civil War and Ant-Man. Avengers: Infinity War has already broken Fandango’s April pre-sales record that was set back in 2015 by Furious 7. Early box office projections have put Avengers: Infinity War‘s opening weekend between $175 million and $200 million, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see those projections rise in the weeks to come.
While Fandango is only one outlet where fans across the world can buy their movie tickets, Avengers: Infinity War‘s dominance on Fandango is still quite important. Fandango’s ticket sales represented more than 30% of the opening weekend sales for Black Panther, which earned an exceptional $202 million in its three-day debut in February, and $242.1 million over the four-day President’s Day holiday weekend. With these robust pre-sales figures from Fandango, it’s possible that Avengers: Infinity War could make a serious run for the all time opening weekend box office record of $247.9 million, set in 2015 by Star Wars :The Force Awakens.
For those who haven’t yet bought their tickets for Avengers: Infinity War, Fandango is offering limited edition, collectible movie character gift cards for this MCU adventure. For every Fandango VIP purchase of Avengers: Infinity War tickets, fans will also be able to choose one of five complimentary Avengers: Infinity War character posters, designed by popular artist Kaz Oomori from Fandango Fanshop, while supplies last. The posters will feature characters such as Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Okoye (Danai Gurira), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), the Guardians of the Galaxy team and many more.
