Here’s What Cops Did For A Couple That Refused To Sit Near Them In A Restaurant

July 13, 2016

A Pittsburgh police officer paid for a couple’s meal after the two said they didn’t want to be seated near him and other officers.

Officer Chuck Thomas of the Homestead Police Department was with three other officers for dinner at the Eat n’ Park restaurant last week.

“A male and female were going to be seated across from us, and he said, ‘I don’t want to sit there,’ which drew my attention, and we made eye contact, and his body language just told me that he wanted nothing to do with police. I looked over at him and said, ‘You don’t have to worry about it. We won’t hurt you.’ He said, ‘No, I’m good. I don’t want to sit there.'”

Thomas decided to pay for the meal so he could leave a note for the couple. On the tab he wrote:

“Sir, your check was paid for by the police officers that you didn’t want to sit next to. Thank you for your support. I left a $10 tip too.”

Thomas said that he paid the tab while he was on his way out and that the server later told him the couple was “thrown back by it” and ended up “chuckling.”
