Comic-Con 2016 Saturday Schedule Released

The big Comic-Con 2016 announcements keep rolling through. And today, we have a full list of what to expect from SDCC’s biggest day! Every year, two weeks before San Diego Comic-Con opens its doors, the convention starts unveiling their schedule, one day at a time. Yesterday, we showed you the full Friday schedule. And earlier in the week, we let you peruse the Preview Night pilot screenings and the full Thursday schedule for this year’s massive event. Comic-Con runs Wednesday, July 20, known as Preview Night, through Sunday, July 24. Today we have the full Saturday schedule, which includes highly-anticipated panels for both DC Films and Marvel Studios, as well as an epic celebration of all things Star Trek for its 50 Anniversary. We have all of the movie and TV related panels here for you in one convenient place! So take a look at everything the Con has to offer on Saturday, July 23.

10:00am – 10:45am – Once Upon a Time

The Evil Queen is back! The heroes of Once Upon a Time grapple with the return of this super-charged classic villain, while also dealing with Mr. Hyde and the new arrivals from the Land of Untold Stories. And as your favorite Storybrooke residents help to find happy endings for these lost and forgotten stories, they’ll discover that they have some untold stories of their own. Co-creators/executive producers Edward Kitsis (Lost) and Adam Horowitz (Lost) and cast members discuss the upcoming season of unexpected twists, evolving characters, new adventures, and new rivalries, with moderator Yvette Nicole Brown. 10:00am – 11:00am – Avatar the Last Airbender: Legend and Legacy

The story of Aang and Korra has ended in one form but continues in graphic novels and through the fans. Moderated by Avatar_Mom, the panel showcases fan talent and conversations with a panel of professionals from the series. Giancarlo Volpe (director, Avatar the Last Airbender, producer,Green Lantern the Animated Series), Aaron Ehasz (head writer, Avatar the Last Airbender), and Jack DeSena (voice actor, Sokka) share stories and marvel with the fandom. The panel also hosts a cosplay contest open to all levels of skill. Hopefuls must be in the panel room to be considered. Room 25ABC

10:00 am – I Read It Before (And After) It Was a Movie

Each day, our newsfeeds blow up with items of more amazing sci-fi/fantasy books being optioned for film or TV, and bookstore shelves are filled with cinematic tie-in novels to geeky summer blockbusters. But what does it take to make the jump from page to screen, and back again? Authors explore the journey of stories from page (both prose and comics) to screen (multi-media) and even stage, and vice versa. Maybe this illustrious group will be able to answer the question of whether it really is better to read the book before seeing the movie! 10:00am – 11:00am – Starting and Sustaining a Career Writing Animation

Want to write for animation? How do you break in? What’s it take to get that first job? After that, how do you get a second gig? And a third? What are the skills and secrets of maintaining a career in the field, including becoming a story editor/showrunner, and perhaps creating and selling your own show. Craig Miller (Curious George, Beast Wars) leads a panel of animation writers with extensive careers and others who have recently broken into the field, including Kaita Mpambara (Ultimate Spider-man, Elena of Avalor), Steve Melching (X-Men: The Animated Series, Star Wars Rebels), Nicole Dubuc (Young Justice, Transformers: Rescue Bots), Dean Stefan (He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, CatDog), and Rachel Vine (Rainbow Brite, Wander Over Yonder) who will share their knowledge and answer your questions. How many great (or terrible?) scripts lie forgotten in the bottom of Hollywood filing cabinets? How did they get there? Why are they still there? Why were they never made? Jon Schnepp and Holly Payne (the dynamic duo behind the hit documentary The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened?) and surprise panelists uncover some of Hollywood’s greatest urban legends, from Superman Lives to Jodorowsky’s Dune. The cast and creative team behind The Vampire Diaries return to San Diego, for an exciting eighth appearanc. Series stars will join executive producers for a video screening and Q&A session. The Costume Designers Guild Local 892 is thrilled to bring the designers of some of your favorite television characters to Comic-Con. Terry Dressbach (Outlander), Ann Foley (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Giovanna Melton (Agent Carter), Kiersten Ronning (Supergirl), and Luis Sequeira (Strain) will discuss the process of designing costumes for television characters no matter what world the characters live in. Soar into San Diego with The Powerpuff Girls! The production designer reads 100 pages of nothing-but-words-on-paper and then must literally dream up the most perfect of all possible worlds in which the tale should take place. Though the story may be set in some mythic past, the here and now, or some nearly unimaginable future, it’s always human emotion rendered in color and composition. And following that, the designer must gather and organize an army of artists who, over months or years, in plaster or in pixels, will somehow render that design for the big screen. Created by McBride and Hill, who also created HBO’s Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals is a dark comedy series that tells the story of a high school and the two people who almost run it: the vice principals. McBride and Goggins star as the rival administrators who are in an epic power struggle, vying for the top spot: to be school principal.
