A Seattle burlesque dancer was unable to board her flight in Boston thanks to the shorts she was wearing, which were deemed “inappropriate” by JetBlue. Maggie McMuffin claims that she was barred from the flight even though she flew into Boston on the same airline.
“No explanation was given except that the pilot said her clothes would prevent her boarding the plane,” Molly McIsaac, a friend of McMuffin, posted on Facebook along with two pictures of the offending shorts. “The flight lead asked if she had anything else to wear, and told her if she didn’t they could rebook the flight for her.”
“Maggie ended up having to go to another terminal to buy a pair of women’s sleep shorts in XL for ‘proper coverage,’” McIsaac continued. She acknowledged that JetBlue attempted to placate McMuffin by offering “less than $200 in credit” and refunding her for the sleep shorts.
JetBlue’s Contract of Carriage stipulates that people “whose clothing is lewd, obscene, or patently offensive” can be barred from any of the airline’s flights.
“The gate and onboard crew discussed the customer’s clothing and determined that the burlesque shorts may offend other families on the flight,” a JetBlue spokesman told MailOnline Travel.
“We support our crewmembers’ discretion to make these difficult decisions, and we decided to reimburse the customer for the cost of the new shorts and offered a credit for future flight as a good will gesture,” the statement continued.
