Trevor McCabe, 27, was at home with his daughter Molly on the Fourth of July when he suffered a stroke. Molly used her dad’s phone to call her mom at work using FaceTime.
“She did a FaceTime call, and she was so brave, and she told me that daddy got sick, and she showed me where daddy was, and so I saw him lying on the ground,” Molly’s mother, Devon McCabe told NBC News.
Devon immediately called 911 and emergency crews rushed her dad to Winchester Medical Center in Virginia.
After being taken to WMC Trevor was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital for emergency brain surgery.
She was told that the type of stroke her husband suffered results in death in more than 85 percent of patients, as it affects the part of the brain that controls critical functions such as breathing and heart rate.
“The only reason he’s doing so well is because he was able to get intervention so quickly,” she said.
And he has his quick-thinking, technologically savvy daughter to thank for that.
Devon said she had no idea her daughter knew how to use FaceTime, but acknowledged that Molly has a great memory.
“We FaceTime with her grandparents every other day, but I’m the one doing it,” she said. “The only thing I can think is that maybe she has seen me do it so many times that she remembered what to do. Five days later, it’s still stunning to me that she was able to put it all together. There is no doubt that she saved her father’s life. She was working really hard to get a hold [of] me.”
Doctors are “really optimistic” that he will make a full recovery, Devon told The Winchester Star.
