When news of Royal Baby No. 3 broke on Monday morning, word spread like wildfire across the Internet, by which we mean in about .2 seconds. So far, we know that the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, has been pregnant for less than three months—and that Kensington Palace announced the news early because she’s suffering again from acute morning sickness (which forced her to cancel her royal engagement at a London children’s center). What we don’t know yet: the due date.
What’s interesting about this royal pregnancy—I mean, beyond the obvious—is that, if it’s born a boy, the birth will be the first application of law passed in 2011 that revamped how British royal succession works. Currently, Princess Charlotte is sitting pretty at fifth in line to the throne. Under the old way of doing things, if the new child were to be a boy, Charlotte would get bumped down to sixth (#patriarchy). Now, regardless of the baby’s sex, Charlotte gets to keep chilling at No. 5 to the throne—and Harry gets displaced instead. So the current line stands at Prince Charles (Will and Harry’s dad), William, George, Charlotte, Royal Baby No. 3, Harry. What modern times we live in.
Anyway, it’s all very exciting! And Twitter is excited about #RoyalBabyWatch too. Here are some of the best tweets reacting to the pregnancy news:
