First Transformers 5 Set Photo Revealed as Shooting Begins

[ad_1]

Last week, filmmaker Michael Bay took to his Instagram page to confirm that production will begin shortly on Transformers: The Last Knight, with shooting to take place in Cuba. The production will be just the second major Hollywood movie to shoot in the country, following Fast & Furious 8, which started production last month. Earlier today, the filmmaker shared the first set photo from his big-budget sequel, featuring one of the many cars used in this sequel.

As you can see in the photo below, from Michael Bay’s Instagram page, this vehicle most likely won’t be one of the Autobots or Decepticons, but there’s no way to know for sure. We’re not quite sure what kind of car the filmmaker is displaying in this image, but it’s most certainly a classic, with a unique green paint job. We don’t know why exactly the filmmaker chose to reveal this car as his first photo from the set, but hopefully we’ll get to see many more as filming continues. It represents the the cars usually seen on the streets of Cuba, as newer models haven’t been allowed in the country. And if an Auobot or Decepticon was in hiding in Cuba, it would definitely have to disguise itself as a classic car from the 50s or 60s due to the restrictions on importing foreign automobiles. This is something we haven’t seen in the franchise before.

Fast 8 was the first major Hollywood production to shoot in Cuba in the past 50 years, after the U.S. lifted the longstanding trade embargo and eased travel restrictions into the country. Conan also took his talk show there earlier this year, and it appears to be the new premiere destination for TV and movie productions, with Showtime’s House of Lies recently becoming the first U.S. scripted series to shoot in the country. We’re not sure how Cuba will be utilized in he Last Knight, or what other countries the action-packed sequel will be shot in.

Paramount officially unveiled The Last Knight title last week, when it was also confirmed that original Transformesrs star Josh Duhamel will return as Lieutenant Colonel Lennox. It will be his fourth movie in the franchise, having been introduced in the 2007 original and going onto appear in 2009’s Revenge of the Fallen and 2011’s Dark of the Moon. He skipped out on 2014’s Age of Extinction. Tyrese Gibson has also expressed interest in returning as Lennox’s partner, Epps, but we don’t have confirmation that he’ll be back quite yet.

The Last Knight has Optimus Prime searching through the cosmos for the Quintessons, the beings believed to be responsible for the creation of the Transformers race. Meanwhile back at home, Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager will be facing a new alien threat that brings Lennox (and possibly Epps) back into duty. Isabela Moner has signed on as the female lead, though no character details have been revealed. The movie also has Jerrod Carmichael from NBC’s The Carmichael Show as the comedic relief this time out. Shooting will take place in Detroit, with various on-location shoots planned to take place throughout the world. Michael Bay is directing from a script by Iron Man writers Art Marcum & Matt Holloway are joined by Black Hawk Down writer Ken Nolan on the screenplay. Take a look at the first set photo from Transformers: The Last Knight, and stay tuned for more as filming continues.
